Bowing or leaning basement walls. If you have a basement and the walls look like they’re bowing inward, that’s pressure from the soil outside pushing against a wall that isn’t holding up against it, and it needs attention sooner rather than later, since this type of movement tends to progress rather than stabilize on its own.
A chimney or porch separating from the house. These are often built on their own separate footing, so when they start pulling away from the main structure or visibly leaning, it’s usually because that footing has settled differently than the house itself.
